DOUGLAS COUNTY - People in a Castle Pines subdivision woke up to a gruesome scene Thursday after a garbage truck driver was run over by his own truck.
The call came in around 10:40 a.m. from the 12000 block of Daniels Gate Drive in the Amber Ridge subdivision.
According to Sgt. Ron Hanavan with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the truck may have dragged the driver after running him over.
Douglas County and South Metro Fire responded. Air Life transported the driver to Swedish Hospital with serious injuries. His name and condition have not been released.
There was another garbage worker in the immediate area. He was not injured.
Deputies say anyone in or around a vehicle should always be on guard.
"There's always a lesson to be learned whether it's a large vehicle or a small vehicle. I mean, safety is always the most important concern for us as well as anybody else. I mean, roadways in general have inherent risks and dangers," Hanavan said.
The garbage company, Eagle Waste Trash and Recycling Services, did not return calls for comment.
