KEENESBURG - A Colorado wildlife sanctuary that specializes in rescuing lions from abuse is got some new arrivals on Tuesday.
Three lions - who've been housed in concrete cages for years in the country of Panama - were flown by cargo plane into Denver International Airport Tuesday night.
This is the second high-profile lion rescue for the facility in 2011. In February, 25 ex-circus and zoo lions were rescued from Bolivia.
Most were underweight and malnourished.
9NEWS was told those Bolivian lions are doing much better now.
The sanctuary says it costs $8,000 a year to care for just one lion. It raises funds from visitor entrance fees, private donations and gift shop sales.
