Farrah Soudani, 22, went to the movies with a big group of friends Thursday night - including her boyfriend Mike White Jr. and his dad Mike White.

Just 15 minutes into the movie, tragedy struck.

"I was just thinking about 'What nut was shooting fireworks into the theater?'" Mike White told 9NEWS Reporter Anastasiya Bolton.

Just seconds later, Mike White - who is an Air Force veteran - realized it was not a joke and that Farrah had been shot.

"I saw the gunman," Mike White said. "He started shooting again. So, I took off my shirt, and I put the shirt on her ... holding her guts in. She was going 'I don't want to die. I hurt so much.' I was trying to tell her 'It's gonna be air-tight.'"

Mike White wanted to keep Holmes from shooting Soudani.

"What I did was, I laid over her, holding on to her," Mike White said. "I laid over her ... waiting for the guy to actually shoot."

Suddenly, the shooting stopped.

"No, I'm not a hero. I'm just Mike. There's other people in [there] that were heroes," Mike White said.

Sam Soudani - Farrah's dad - said she is in debt to Mike White for the rest of her life.

"I can't describe in words," Sam said. "I gave him a kiss. He liked it. The staff has been amazing."

Soudani is without health insurance, and her medical bills continue to mount.

Farrah's medical bills will continue to accumilate for many months due to her injuries.

arrah maintains her strong enthusiasm for life and continues to impress those around her including the medical staff.
