In a 12 to 1 vote Tuesday, the Denver City Council approved a plan to redevelop the Welton Street Corridor in Five Points.

Supporters say the plan will attract developers and bring new life to the neighborhood. Opponents say the history and character of the corridor could be lost.

Some also fear being forced to sell their homes.

City leaders say the city council would have to approve any cases of eminent domain, which has only been used by the Denver Urban Renewal Authority three times in thirty years.
