Twenty-year-old Luis Enrique Guzman-Rincon was sentenced Friday. He was convicted in August of six counts of attempted murder with extreme indifference in connection with a shooting into a group of students across from the school.
Prosecutors say that on Dec. 6, 2010, Guzman-Rincon was in a car whose passengers got in an argument with another group of people believed to be in a rival gang. The students weren't part of the argument or either gang.
However prosecutors say Guzman-Rincon fired toward the group as the vehicle drove by, striking a girl in her lower back. Prosecutors say she is paralyzed from the waist down.
