John Robert Pomeroy, 33, was taken into custody in connection with the incident at the Target on 1400 South Havana Street.
According to police, Pomeroy allegedly entered Target and fired one round from a handgun at the ceiling near the pharmacy area.
"As soon as we heard the shots, everyone was just running toward one direction. People were screaming and yelling. It was a really chaotic situation," Andra Collins said.
Store employees were taken to a nearby restaurant where they were questioned by police.
Pomeroy faces charges including aggravated robbery involving a controlled substance, felony menacing, robbery, and attempt homicide.
He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
