Jack Ellenberger was working the lift when he saw a mechanism coming apart. He shut off the lift immediately and reported the problem.

More than 150 people were evacuated from the Sunnyside lift following the discovery.

It took about two hours to get everyone safely off the lift by a rope rescue.
