COLORADO SPRINGS - A Colorado Springs mother is facing charges of child abuse after she allegedly left her kids in a running car that was stolen as she shopped at a Walgreens Tuesday morning.
Police say the thief began to drive away when he realized there were two young children inside. The suspect then parked the car and fled on foot. Police are still looking for the man. The children were not harmed.
Police say the mother, Takai Beard, was inside the store - located at 920 North Circle Drive in Colorado Springs - for about 10 minutes while her two children were inside the unlocked, running car.
Beard was also issued a summons for an unattended motor vehicle violation.
She was booked into the El Paso County Jail for an unrelated warrant.
