DENVER - Denver's City Council unanimously approved a zoning change that would allow for a new seven story building where the Case Building now stands in Cherry Creek.
The vote took place in a packed chamber Tuesday night.
Critics say it doesn't fit in with the area and could create major traffic and parking issues. They were also concerned approving the project could have other developers looking to build similar projects in Cherry Creek.
Former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb spoke in favor of the project during Tuesday's meeting.
Nearly 40 people testified against the plan.
Developers and some city officials agree that this redevelopment is vital in keeping the area healthy because it is now competing with other similar places like Belmar and Highland.
