Bear breaks into Aspen lodge, raids refrigerators

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - A black bear visited a lodge in Aspen three times this week, including one appearance when it entered the front door, ate food from two refrigerators and stayed for about 45 minutes until a police officer with a beanbag gun chased it out.

The Aspen Times reports the bear entered an open door of the Snow Queen Victorian Lodge early Wednesday morning and ransacked the kitchen, finding milk, half-and-half cream, ice cream and breakfast rolls.

The lodge's manager says the bear wandered back Thursday and Friday, grunting outside the property. But it has avoided a trap set up by police.

Bears are eating voraciously right now as they prepare for hibernation.
