Boulder County deputy involved in shooting ID'd

BOULDER COUNTY - Authorities have identified the deputy who fired at a man who also shot at her, shattering the window of her car.

Deputy Teri Javes is a 19-year veteran of the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. She received a Live-Saving Medal in 2012 for saving an inmate who attempted suicide.

Saturday’s incident happened at around 5:15 p.m., when several drivers said a man was walking along Highway 287 with a gun and acting aggressive toward drivers.

Investigators say when Javes approached the suspect, who hasn’t been identified, he immediately fired a shot at her. She returned fire, hitting him several times.

There’s no word yet on the suspect’s condition.

The incident prompted deputies to close Highway 287 between Niwot and Oxford roads for multiple hours Saturday evening.
