Boulder Parks employee of 18 years killed in ATV wreck

KUSA - An 18-year veteran with Boulder County Parks & Open Space was killed in an ATV wreck on Tuesday morning.

Faulkner Merdes, 45, was working with two coworkers doing weed prevention and control operations on the county-owned Bielens-Hock property, northeast of the intersection of Diagonal Highway and Airport Road. 

Around 11 a.m. he was found by those coworkers unconscious with his ATV on top of him. Despite efforts to revive him, Merdes, of Longmont, was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, the circumstances leading up to, and surrounding, the accident are still being investigated.
