Call about shooting in Weld County ends with house fire

WELD COUNTY - Deputies are trying to piece together a strange situation Tuesday morning that started with a fake call about a shooting and ended with a house fire.

It all started at around 3:30 a.m., when the suspect – identified as 27-year-old Aron Miramontes – called police and said he’d been shot.

When deputies arrived in the 33000 block of Highway 392 in Gill, they found Miramontes trying to break into his neighbor’s home. The Weld County Sheriff’s Office says he had not been shot, and appeared to be high on something.

Deputies later learned that Miramontes’ home in the 33300 block of WCR 61 ¾ was engulfed in flames.
It’s unclear how that fire started.

Miramontes has been taken into custody and faces charges for fourth-degree arson, second-degree burglary, attempted first-degree criminal trespass and criminal mischief.

No one was injured during the incident. Authorities don’t believe the public is at risk.
