Close call for resident after roof collapse

DENVER - Police say the resident of a Denver home is lucky to be alive after part of her roof collapsed Sunday evening.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of Hudson Street in east Denver. A woman called police to report what sounded like the roof of the home cracking. She ran out of the home with her pet just in time.

Police on scene said piles of construction material were left in one spot on the roof as part of a construction project. The weight of those materials caused part of the roof to collapse.

No one was injured.

Denver Fire will be working with city engineers to determine when the structure will be deemed safe. Residents in the two homes on each side were evacuated out of an abundance of caution.

Hudson Street from East 17th Avenue to East Colfax Avenue was closed.
