Judge: Planned Parenthood shooter still incompetent

The man who admitted to killing three people during a shooting at the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood almost a year ago appeared in front of a judge again Thursday, and was once against ruled incompetent to stand trial.

Robert Dear was first ruled mentally unfit for trial back in April. He is at the state mental health facility, and authorities will revisit his competency every 90 days.

He faces 179 counts for charges including murder, attempted murder and assault in the Nov. 27, 2015 attack.

Dear’s court appearances have been marked by bizarre outbursts. During Thursday's hearing, he shouted "4,000 babies are murdered every day by Planned Parenthood -- go to Google and see the pictures of the murdered babies" as he was led inside the courtroom.

During the hearing, the judge said he would make a ruling on the gag order associated with the case -- prompting Dear to blurt out "censorship."

After the approximately 45-minute hearing, Dear was led out of the courtroom by deputies as he shouted "they broke the law and the Geneva Convention by not allowing .50 caliber weapons."

The victims in the shooting are suing Planned Parenthood in a civil case in Denver. The judge is also expected to determine whether Dear’s mental health records can be released for this trial.

All three of the people killed in the Planned Parenthood attack were parents.

Officer Garrett Swasey, 44, worked for the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs Police Department. He rushed to the scene to help after the shooting was reported, and leaves behind a wife and two children.

Jennifer Markovsky, 36, also died in the shooting and had two young children. She was originally from Hawaii, and was at the clinic that day to support a friend.

Ke’Arre Stewart, 29, also had two children and was at the clinic to give emotional support. He was an Iraq War veteran who recently left the military.
