Denver nominated for best convention city

DENVER – From the restaurant and bar scene to the stadiums and state capital, Denver boasts a wide variety of opportunities for residents and visitors alike.

While these things are all tourist draws in their own right, each can also be attributed for the success of another Denver landmark: The Colorado Convention Center.

Denver is currently in the running for USA TODAY's "Best Convention City," a reader-based award working to find the best city to attend a show.

Ten top-tier cities and ten second-tier cities were nominated based on four criteria.

The convention center itself was chosen based on its "up-to-datedness," amenities and ability to host large presentations.

Next, the city was given consideration based on nearby attractions, historical landmarks and other means of entertainment. Restaurants and hotel were also a criteria.

Judges also took into consideration the convenience of traveling to a convention city, and transportation around town.

From these four elements, Denver was nominated along with the following:

Anaheim, Calif.

Atlanta, Ga.

Baltimore, Md.

Boston, Mass.

Chicago, Ill.

Dallas, Texas

Denver, Colo.

Indianapolis, Ind.

Las Vegas, Nev.

Miami, Fla.

Minneapolis, Minn.

Nashville, Tenn.

New Orleans, La.

New York City, N.Y.

Orlando, Fla.

Salt Lake City, Utah

San Antonio, Texas

San Diego, Calif.

San Francisco, Calif.
