Denver's eBags being acquired by Hong Kong company

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Greenwood Village-based eBags Inc., an online seller of luggage and handbags, is being acquired by Hong Kong-based Samsonite International S.A. — the world's largest travel luggage company — in a $105 million deal.

eBags will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsonite and continue doing business under the eBags name, the company said.

The deal, announced Friday, will renew connections among eBags, Samsonite and the Denver area.

Samsonite started in Denver in 1910 and remained headquartered here until 2006, and it was a group of former Samsonite employees who, in 1998, launched eBags and established it as one of the first successful ecommerce businesses.
