Details emerge in halfway house death

ARAPAHOE COUNTY – The Arapahoe County Sheriff's office has revealed more information about the death of a man who died after being involved in a physical altercation with deputies last Thursday.

John Thomas Rotzin died two days after suffering cardiac arrest at the Arapahoe Community Treatment Center in Englewood, according to a news release from Sheriff David Walcher.

The medical episode happened while he was being treated by paramedics after being physically aggressive with authorities.

Deputies were called in after the 33-year-old had reportedly been assaulting female visitors at the facility.

Walcher says Rotzin became physical with deputies before being restrained, and was ultimately treated by paramedics for injuries.

That's when authorities say Rotzin went into cardiac arrest during treatment and was then transported to a nearby hospital, where he died on Saturday.

9NEWS reached out to Rotzin's family, but they declined to comment at this time.
