Dog dies in Federal Heights apartment fire

FEDERAL HEIGHTS - A dog has died following a fire at a Federal Heights Apartment Complex Tuesday night.

The Federal Heights Fire Department was called to The Lodge on 84th apartments at 1327 W. 84th Street just after 9 p.m. for a smoke investigation.

Fire crews arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke coming from the building and began a fire attack.

Firefighters later removed a dog who was not breathing from the apartment. Despite CPR efforts, the dog was pronounced dead at the scene.

No civilians or firefighters were injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Westminster, Adams County and Thornton Fire departments helped to put out the blaze.
