An update was released Friday on the condition of the Douglas County detective that was shot in the line of duty.
Sheriff Tony Spurlock says the quick actions of SWAT medics saved the life of Dan Brite.
"We wouldn’t be here today if we didn’t have smart thinking of officers on scene," he said.
Suspect Randall Rodick was spotted walking around with a gun near Sierra Middle School last week.
He opened fire, shooting detective Brite. During the incident, five officers fired their weapons, exchanging fire.
Rodick was shot and killed. Brite remains in critical condition but doctors are optimistic about his recovery.
"We would like to thank each and every one of you for your outpour of prayers," Steve Brite, Detective Dan Brite’s Brother said.
