Driver spots body floating in Arkansas River

FREMONT COUNTY - The Fremont County Sheriff's Office is working to identify a man pulled from Arkansas River near Wellsville Monday afternoon.

Captain Don Pinover with the Fremont County Sheriff's Office says the 63-year-old Saguache County man was spotted floating in the river by a tourist who was driving along Highway 50 near the Wellsville Bridge.

Crews pulled the man from the water on the west end of Fremont County. He was wearing a helmet, wet suit, and flotation device.

The Sheriff's Office believes the man was in an inflatable kayak near Salida prior to being swept downstream.

There have now been more than two dozen drowning deaths in Colorado waterways since spring began.
