Driving 'challenge' when Pro Challenge ends in Denver

DENVER -The US Pro Challenge is nearing the end.

On Sunday, cyclists will start stage 7 in Boulder. They'll ride down Highway 93, passing through Lookout Mountain. The final stretch is when they enter Denver from Lakewood at East 29th Avenue. The race will end at Civic Center Park.

The city has already started to gear up for the event. Heather Burke with Denver Public Works says the first round of road closures will begin promptly at 6 a.m. Saturday.

"Broadway is going to be closed from Colfax to 13th. [West] 14th [Avenue] is going to be closed from Cherokee to Lincoln, and Bannock is going to be closed from Colfax to 13th," Burke said.

On Sunday between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Colfax Avenue will close from North Speer Boulevard to Grant Street. Between 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Lincoln Street will be closed from West 17th Avenue to West 13th Avenue, and West Colfax Avenue will be closed from Bannock Street to Broadway.

Closures starting Sunday at 8:30 a.m. through 5:00 a.m. Monday will include Cherokee Street from West Colfax Avenue to West 13th Avenue.

Rockies fans heading to the game on Sunday can access Interstate 25 and exit at 20th Street and Park Avenue.

RTD encourages people to take the bus and light rail but says there will be slight delays.

The city says there will be a free bike valet set up at the Webb Building and at West 14th Avenue and Bannock Street.
