KUSA - Dozens of people gathered Saturday morning to honor firefighters who have died in the line of duty.
Every year on mother's day weekend, the Colorado Fallen Firefighters Foundation hosts a special memorial service.
"We do this to honor the families and honor the firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice of being killed in the line of duty," said Foundation treasurer Christina Griggs.
They've been holding the ceremony at the Colorado Firefighters Memorial at Belmar Park in Lakewood for more than 20 years. There are 142 names listed on the memorial. The last name was added in 2012.
"The families that we do this for, they love it," said Griggs. "It gives them a sense of how much we appreciate what they do for our communities and the risks that they take daily when they respond."
