MANITOU SPRINGS - Coffins raced down the streets of Manitou Springs Saturday.
The 22nd annual Emma Crawford Coffin Races kicked off with a parade of hearses. Following the parade, 70 teams of runners took part in the longtime tradition.
Four people pushed a homemade coffin with the 5th team member inside dressed as Emma Crawford.
“We are here for the fun the festivities, the people, the atmosphere," said Randy Olive, a Zia Zombies team member. "We are so happy, honored and privileged to be here.
Organizers say they had record turnout for the event.
3per Reaper took home first place with a time of 23:38. MGA Pediatric Home Healthcare came in second and the Haramboys took third place.
Ghouls Gulch won the award for the best Emma. Steampunk Zombies had the best coffin. The award for best entourage went to "And you will know us by the trail of the dead!"
