DENVER - Women in treatment for breast cancer, survivors, and their families joined doctors from UCHealth's Lone Tree Breast Center for an intense work out session Saturday afternoon at Orange Theory Fitness in Denver.

Dr. Regina Brown is the Medical Director of Oncology at UCHealth’s Lone Tree Breast Center.

“We know the benefits of exercise in preventing recurrence,” said Brown “And hopefully preventing cancer in those who’ve never had cancer before.”

Dr. Brown doesn’t only treat women with breast cancer. She battled the disease herself.

"Patients will hit points where they feel like they can’t do it anymore,” Brown said. “To be able to look them in the eye and say ‘I know what you feel. I know what’s going through your head, but you can look at me and see you can get through this, and you will get through this.’”

Dr. Brown kept up a consistent exercise routine throughout her cancer treatment. She envisions exercise programs becoming a standard part of treatment in the future.
