BOULDER - Approximately 25 chicks were killed during a fire that destroyed a chicken coop and loafing shed in Boulder.
The structure fire was first reported by the homeowners in the 7100 block of Oriole Lane around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office.
Members of the Mountain View Fire Protection District and Boulder County Sheriff's Office found the chicken coop and loafing shed fully engulfed in flames.
The homeowners were able to get two horses to safety but the chicks were lost. No other injuries were reported.
The Sheriff's Office says the coop and shed were a total loss. The fire was suspected to be caused from a heating lamp used to warm the chicks, but the fire is still under investigation.
