Firefighters rescue cow that fell into silo

BENNETT- It took three fire departments much of the night to rescue a cow that fell about 30 feet into a grain silo pit Thursday.

Bennett Battalion Chief Tim McCawley said his firefighters worked with Sable Altura, Aurora Fire Department and a technical rescue team to build a rigging system made of ropes attached to a tow truck.

Two firefighters jumped into the silo pit to tie the 1,200 to 1,500-pound cow to the ropes.

It took about six hours to successfully lift the cow out of the silo. The cow sustained minor abrasions but no significant injuries.
