FORT COLLINS - The cyclist who was struck and killed Saturday has been identified as Fort Collins resident Cesar Palermo, according to the Larimer County Coroner's Office.
Palermo, 57, died Saturday evening after he was struck by a Dodge Durango SUV in north Fort Collins earlier in the day. Fort Collins police are still investigating the crash and have not yet filed charges against the driver, 18-year-old Earl Ong of Fort Collins.
Emergency crews were dispatched shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday on a report of crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist about one-quarter mile north of the intersection of Lemay Avenue and Vine Drive. Fort Collins police located a bicycle, a Dodge Durango SUV, and a Ford F-350 truck that was pulling a small boat.
After a lengthy investigation Saturday, police determined Ong was traveling north on Lemay. Ong realized he was about to hit the truck in front of him, swerve to the right, and crashed into the cyclist, investigators said.
