PD: 14-year-old driving stolen pickup crashes into fuel truck

The boy is in the hospital after the crash.

THORNTON - A 14-year-old boy who was driving a pickup truck that had been reportedly stolen out of unincorporated Adams County is in the hospital after he crashed into a fuel truck at a busy intersection Tuesday morning, according to Thornton Police.

The crash – which happened at Holly Street and 112th Avenue – was reported at around 9:05 a.m. Tuesday, Thornton Police said.

The teen ran a red light and hit the fuel truck, investigators say, causing fuel to leak onto the road.

Thornton Police say the suspect tried to run away from the crash but was arrested a short time later.

He was taken to the hospital with injuries sustained from the crash, Thornton Police said.

The Thornton Fire Department told some people who live nearby to evacuate as a precaution. The fuel leak has since been minimized, according to Thornton Fire.
