Gas leak leads to evacuations at Fort Collins nursing home

FORT COLLINS - Residents were evacuated for a short time Tuesday evening after a natural gas leak at a Fort Collins nursing home.

The leak at the Golden Peaks Center at 1005 E. Elizabeth St. was reported just after 9:30 p.m. The caller said residents were getting headaches.

Crews later ventilated the building, allowing all patients and staff members to come back inside at around 10:09 p.m., according to Poudre Fire Authority. Firefighters have since determined the leak may have originated in the kitchen.

No one received medical treatment after the leak, PFA said.

Xcel Energy is investigating what caused the leak.
