LONE TREE - As some people finish their Thanksgiving dinners with families, others are rushing out the doors to line up for early Black Friday deals.
Arun Singh has been waiting at the Toys-R-Us line since 4 p.m., an hour before the store opens its doors. He knows Black Friday, but he doesn’t know much about Thanksgiving.
“I know there’s some celebration about turkey but I’m a vegetarian,” he said. “I want to be part of your celebration,” Singh said.
Singh moved to the U.S. from India just a year ago.
“This is my first Thanksgiving day in the U.S.,” he said. “So I would like to see and experience the culture and how people behave.”
Still, some people say not every deal is worth the wait.
“JC Penny had over a two hour wait in line so we said forget it,” Karen Clayburn, a shopper at Park Meadows Mall said.
But hey, as long as you’re waiting together.
“Just more with the family, rather than just shopping.” Hani Saeed said as he was leaving Macy’s.
Singh says that’s the real meaning behind Thanksgiving.
“So it doesn’t matter whether we’re at home or we shop,” he said. “Family is with us.”
And of course...the deals.
“Shop as much as possible,” Singh said.
Park Meadows Mall will be open until midnight on Thanksgiving and then reopen at 6 AM on Black Friday.
