KUSA - Friday, we got a tour of the new Amazon fulfillment center that will employ 1,000 people in Aurora. The facility is massive, one million square feet.
It's being built near the intersection of I-70 and E-470. There are 750 construction workers building it.
"It is exciting on a number of levels. It's more jobs for citizens, it's a Fortune 500 company, it's the first of its kind in Colorado," said Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan.
The facility is scheduled to open in late summer.
Workers there will pack and ship, larger-sized customer orders. Mayor Hogan says the facility is perfect for people who live in his city.
"It provides an opportunity for people to not only live in Aurora, but work in Aurora," he said. "In some cases, you know we still see people who live here, but work elsewhere. Now they can live here, work here, have a good paying job, full benefits, educational assistance and they don't have to drive very far to work."
Amazon is accepting applications now.
Amazon already has another facility near I-70 and Tower. It is much smaller and employs about 300 people.
