Loaded handgun found at Colorado Springs Airport

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - The Transportation Security Administration says a screener found a loaded handgun with a passenger who was trying to board a plane at the Colorado Springs Airport.

The Gazette reports a TSA employee found the .22-caliber Derringer revolver at an airport checkpoint at about 7:15 p.m. Thursday. The passenger, whose name has not been released, was cited with a local charge.

TSA spokeswoman Carrie Harmon says firearms, ammunition, firearm parts and realistic replicas are prohibited in carry-on bags. Those items can be put in checked baggage, provided the traveler declares them to the airline during check-in.

Thursday's discovery marks the second time a TSA officer has found a firearm at the airport this year.
