Man rescued from collapsed trench in Aurora

AURORA - After almost two hours, firefighters have rescued a man trapped in a collapsed trench at East Florida Avenue and South Oakland Street in Aurora.

The trench is 12-feet long and 14-feet deep. The emergency call came in just after 9 a.m. Authorities say it was a complicated extrication, and they had to hand dig the man out.

The person is not seriously injured, according to Aurora Fire, but emergency personnel treated him while they tried to rescue him. He was taken to a nearby hospital.

An Aurora Fire Department spokesperson says the man was digging in the trench when it collapsed. He was buried up to his waist.

The 1400 block of South Oakland Street was shut down due to the rescue attempt.
