Many businesses flee Manitou Springs after floods

MANITOU SPRINGS –Several businesses have moved out of Manitou Springs since the floods last August. Flooding in Waldo Canyon sent water and mud downhill into the town on multiple occasions in 2012.

Several businesses, like Dulcimers Shop, lost hundreds of thousands of dollars when the floods rolled through town. A lot of the people who are still running businesses in Manitou say they are still dealing with issues.

In an effort to combat any future floods, Manitou Springs decided to dredge the bottom of Fountain Creek. The creek actually climbed up by about three feet since last August. That's something officials are paying close attention to.

Most of the businesses that put "for sale" signs on their buildings sat beside the creek. Some moved elsewhere in town. Others gave up all together.
