Marijuana edibles under scrutiny after deaths

DENVER - Thousands of people are coming to Denver this holiday weekend to celebrate marijuana. Sunday is 4/20, a sort of holiday for pot enthusiasts.

This comes at a time when Colorado's marijuana industry is in the spotlight for recent deaths with the connection to ediple marijuana products.

Companies who make edibles are trying to get the word out that a lot of these products are very potent.

Joe Hodas, with Dixie Elixir's - one of the bigger manufacturers in Colorado, says packing in lots of milligrams of THC to each product is a holdover from the roots of the industry: medical marijuana.

Organizers of the 4/20 rally say they expect about 50,000 to 80,000 people both on Saturday and Sunday at Civic Center Park.

The 4/20 rally is just one of 47 events listed for this weekend on the Cannabist - a local website focusing on marijuana issues. Another large gathering is the Cannabis Cup at the Denver Merchandize Mart. Organizers are expecting 30,000 people there.
