NBCUniversal scoops up Denver-based Craftsy in 'lifestyle edutainment' deal

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Television giant NBCUniversal is buying majority ownership of Denver-based Craftsy, maker online video cooking and crafting lessons used by more than 12 million U.S. hobbyists who subscribe.

NBCUniversal and Craftsy jointly announced the deal Wednesday. Terms were not disclosed.

Craftsy will become part of the NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment unit and continue to offer its online programming.

“There’s also great on-air potential in Craftsy’s future. We have the ability to develop its growing roster of experts, by featuring them in long and short-form entertainment content that can live in linear as well as digital spaces,” said Bonnie Hammer, NBCUniversal chairwoman.
