There was a record number of background checks during Black Friday gun sales

CBI says gun sales broke some records on Friday. We can see that in the number of background checks.

NEXT WITH KYLE CLARK - There was a record number of firearms background checks in Colorado this Black Friday. 

Though it's usually CBI's busiest day in any year, there were nearly a thousand more background checks this year compared to 2013.

CBI's InstaCheck Unit, who is responsible for these checks conducted 4,779 background investigations for firearm transfers from midnight until 9 p.m. on Friday.

Here are the numbers from the last five years, according to the CBI. 

  • 2013: 3,804
  • 2014: 4,119
  • 2015: 4,115
  • 2016: 4,329
  • 2017: 4,779

Nationally, the Federal Bureau of Investigations received more than 200,000 background checks on Friday -- another record-breaker.
