No charges in Anschutz officer-involved shooting

AURORA - No criminal charges will be filed against the officer involved in a shooting on the Anschutz Medical Campus that left one man dead.

The officer was not injured in the March 19 shooting. Authorities say the man who was shot and killed was an employee of University of Colorado Hospital. The man, later identified as Joseph Oliver Gorden, had recently resigned. His last day was to be March 28.

Aurora Police say officers from the University of Colorado Denver Police Department responded to a report of a suicidal man in a parking garage at the Anschutz Medical Campus.

When officers found the vehicle, the man drove off, and officers followed him to the intersection of East 16th Avenue and North Quentin Street.

During the traffic stop, the employee was shot, according to Aurora Police. The man was taken to the University of Colorado Hospital where he died a short time later.

CU-Denver officials say the medical campus is safe, and there is no danger to the public. The Anschutz campus includes University of Colorado Hospital and facilities for CU-Denver.
