DOUGLAS COUNTY - Tuesday marks one year since Colorado State Trooper Jaimie Jursevics was hit and killed by a drunk driver as she tried to pull him over on Interstate 25.

The 33-year-old left behind a husband and a young daughter.

Jursevics was hit the night of Nov. 15, 2015. She had stopped her patrol vehicle on the shoulder of I-25 south of Castle Rock to protect the scene of a previous crash, when she received a report of a possible drunk driver headed in her direction.

She tried to flag down the suspect from her patrol vehicle, but the suspect plowed into her and kept going.

The driver, identified as Eric Henderson, was arrested 15 miles later. He pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and tampering with the evidence in June, and is serving an eight year prison sentence.

He had been drinking at that night’s Denver Broncos game, and is a decorated Army Colonel.

Jursevics’ husband, Didzis Jursevics, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Henderson and the bar that served him the night Jaimie was killed.

Jursevics joined Colorado State Patrol on Jan. 9, 2011. She was initially assigned to Troop 4-C Vail and transferred to Troop 1-C Castle Rock in 2014.
