Parents of rape victim suing Douglas County Schools

KUSA - The parents of a girl who was raped at the hands of a middle school teacher are suing Douglas County Schools.

Richard Johnson was sentenced to 20 years in prison last year for repeatedly sexually assaulting one of his math students from Rocky Heights Middle School.

He faced 30 felonies in all. The victim's parents filed the suit Monday.

They claim the principal and assistant principal knew about the crimes but punished students who reported them and told others to stay silent.

The suit goes on to say school officials failed to call police.

Douglas County Schools says it cannot comment on pending legal action.
