Police attacks halt Breckenridge speed alerts on Facebook

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (AP) - Police in Breckenridge say they're going to stop announcing on Facebook when and where they're on the lookout for speeding drivers.

The (Frisco) Summit Daily reports the Breckenridge Police Department used to post that information regularly. Police Chief Dennis McLaughlin says the goal was to discourage speeding and boost the department's presence on social media.

Now, a recent string of targeted attacks on police officers has police in Breckenridge worried. Four police officers in three states were shot Sunday.

McLaughlin says the department hasn't received any threats and the community still supports its police. Still, he says it's better to be safe than sorry.
