DENVER - The field for the governor's race is getting more crowded.
Democratic Congressman Ed Perlmutter made his run official on Sunday afternoon. He made his announcement in the parking lot of a Natural Grocers in Golden.
Perlmutter has served the 7th District in the House of Representatives for the past 10 years. He said he's now ready to move Colorado forward by making the jump to the governor's office and keeping it in the hands of Democrats.
A few of his goals include investing in roads and other infrastructure, schools and the environment. He said he also wants to build a stronger economy and a more secure middle class with good paying jobs, affordable higher education and a secure retirement.
"Coloradans deserve action, not partisanship, which we see too often in Washington, D.C. and they need leaders who come together to move Colorado forward," Perlmutter said during Sunday's announcement.
Perlmutter's announcement follows one from another high profile candidate. District Attorney George Brauchler announced last week he's running as a Republican.
