Election 2016: Denver's social-pot-use backers finally declare victory

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - A week after election day, it appears that the matter of Denver's Initiative 300, which would allow for social use of marijuana in certain businesses, has passed.

Initiative 300 allows the designation of specific areas in which marijuana products can be consumed by those 21 or over on a bring-your-own-cannabis basis, but only with the permission of the surrounding neighborhood.

Once a business obtains permission from the neighborhood, it can apply for a permit from the city that would allow it to operate for an amount of time determined by the neighborhood.

Vote counting was slowed by a flood of votes just before the election and the closure of government offices for Veterans Day on Friday, but new results posted early Tuesday showed the measure leading with 53 percent of the vote.
