Post offices prepare for tax-day rush

DENVER – Post offices in the Denver metro area are expecting longer lines, as last-minute tax filers seek an April 15 postmark for their tax documents.

However, only one post office will have windows open until midnight.

"The only location staying open until that hour will be the Denver GMF retail facility at 7500 53rd Place," U.S. Postal Service officials said in a statement to 9NEWS. That office is located in Stapleton.

USPS officials say people can still drop off their properly-stamped and addressed envelopes until midnight in collection boxes at these 13 locations, which will have self-service kiosks for stamp purchases available, but no postal service employees available to assist customers:

  • Bear Valley Station, 7555 W. Amherst
  • Capitol Hill Station, 1571 Marion St.
  • Denver GMF, 7500 E. 53rd Place
  • Downtown Station, 951 20th St
  • Glendale Station, 945 Birch St.
  • Lakewood Station, 10799 W. Alameda Ave.
  • Mile High Station, 450 W. 14th St.
  • Montclair Station, 8725 E. 11th Ave.
  • North Pecos Station, 1411 Cortez St.
  • Northglenn Station, 11887 Washington St.
  • South Denver Station, 225 S. Broadway
  • Sullivan Station, 8700 E. Jefferson Way
  • University Park Station, 3800 Buchtel Blvd.

The postal service reminds all tax filers to ensure that they have proper postage on their documents.
