ARVADA - A raccoon got quite the surprise when he climbed over the fence on Wednesday. One of its little paws was caught in an illegal wildlife trap.

The Arvada Police Animal Management Unit responded to the injured raccoon in the Lake Arbor area.

They say its front leg had been stuck in a trap. Once released from the trap, it ran through the neighborhood with a broken paw.

Animal Management Officers were able to catch the panicked animal. Officials say they had to euthanize, the otherwise healthy animal.

Residents who are faced with wildlife issues, are asked to call the Animal Management unit at 720-891-6850. They can discuss alternative and humane solutions.

If anyone has any information on the person who is setting these traps – call Arvada Police at 720-898-6859.
