'Realistic' air gun prompts school lockdown

LONGMONT – A 13-year-old boy is facing serious charges after police say he brought a "realistic" airsoft gun to Timberline K-8, which prompted authorities to place the school on lockdown for several hours Friday afternoon.

The Longmont Police Department responded to the school at 233 E. Mountain View Ave. following a report that a student with a gun was walking around the school.

The school was immediately put on lockdown. Students were then led outside hand in hand and loaded onto school buses while heavily-armed police surrounded the school.

Police later contacted the student and placed him into custody. A search of the school revealed an airsoft gun, which was painted black and appeared very realistic, according to police.

Police say the boy will be charged with interfering with school facilities and false reporting. He is being processed at the Longmont Police Department and will be transferred to the Boulder County Juvenile Detention Center.
