LAKEWOOD - Nearby residents were told to stay inside and a stretch of Kipling Street was closed for hours Thursday morning as police searched for a possible robbery suspect.
No suspect was ultimately found during the incident, which started at around 6:30 a.m. when a woman went into her office in the area of West 9th Avenue and Kipling and saw a strange man inside.
She told police she thought he may have had a weapon.
Investigators say they had reason to believe this same man was involved another robbery at the Every Day convenience store on West Alameda Avenue earlier in the day.
The Lakewood Police SWAT team made entry into the house, but never found the man. They did find evidence he was there.
Police closed off nearby roads in hopes of finding him, but to no avail.
Kipling was reopened a few hours later. Lakewood High School was put on lockout as a precaution. This has since been lifted.
During the closure, Kipling was closed from West 6th Avenue to West Colfax Avenue, causing traffic troubles in the area.
