Son sought in Mesa County death has record

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - The man investigators want to talk to about the death of his mother in Mesa County is a five-time convicted felon wanted for walking away from a halfway house.

The body of 54-year-old Kathleen Stetzel was found in the desert north of Grand Junction this week. Investigators haven't disclosed how she died but say they want to talk to her 31-year-old son, Daniel Stetzel.

The Daily Sentinel reported Sunday that Colorado Bureau of Investigations records show that he has been arrested 14 times since 2002. He has served time in prison for a robbery conviction and violating his parole.

This year, he was sent to a halfway house after pleading guilty to methamphetamine possession and assault. His mother told the judge in that case that her son had schizophrenia.
