Summer season begins in the high country

KUSA - Despite all the rain and snow, Colorado ski areas are finally opening their summer attractions. Copper Mountain and Breckinridge opened Friday.

Given all the challenges, Dwight Eppinger and other employees at Copper Mountain say they are ready for the summer business.

"We have had to delay the lift opening. The American Eagle was supposed to open today, but we pushed that back for one week," Eppinger said.

Copper built a large pile of snow at the base area and are using it for a terrain park.

"We have a summer park that will be open to the public on Saturdays," Eppinger said. They also have the zip-line and new hydro-bikes out on the lake.

Breckenridge Ski Area also opened after having problems with the weather. The alpine coaster and alpine slide are open, but many other attractions are still closed.
